The World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World’s Fair, was organized in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s landing in America. Charles F. Rice (1867-1928) was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Franklin P. and Mary (Mitchell) Rice. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1887, Charles became a bookkeeper for the Fulton County Street Railroad Company. He later worked as Atlanta correspondent for the Macon Telegraph, and also became involved in local politics.
